ACER LAPTOP COMPUTERS HIGH QUALITY
Computer geniuses- whats your opinion?
My HP Pavillion laptop have finally succumed to a fate that will likely cost more to fix then it is worth. So…time to part with the old girl, sell her or trade her in for parts maybe and get a new laptop.
Should I buy brand new? Or are refurbished/off lease models of higher quality names like Dell IBM etc the way to go? The off lease include 60 day warrenty at max, while brand new is obviously a year I think, but brand new would be double the money.
What are your thoughts? I have been told to stay clear of Acer in every form as they are garbage. I have about $400 Canadian Dollars to spend, plus the trade in of my HP Pavillion. Please help! I don’t want to get ripped off.
These refurbished models are fine. There’s nothing wrong with them and it’s pretty much the same as buying one new. I bought a refurbished Pavillion desktop PC that way and was very pleased with it. It wasn’t the best machine in the world, but it was pretty good and has provided sterling service for the last five years (although it has become a secondary machine).
Have a look at the various refurbished deals on offer and see what you can get them for. Then compare them with other computers that ctach your eye. 60 days is pretty short for a warranty, so you might want to see if you can get a longer one.
Consider what you want the computer for. If you just want it for a bit of word proecessing, email, web and iTunes, then pretty much anything on the market will do what you want. It’s a good time to be buying a computer (in terms of price at least).
The only thing I would advise caution over is the size of hard disk and memory. If you’re going to be running Windows XP, then 2GB of memory would be nice. 1GB will do you quite well and anything less is going to throttle back your laptop. 500GB should be enough hard disk for most people and you could probably get by on 150GB, but be careful of a hard disk that is much below that. They can fill up fast.
