Help with ASUS EEE laptop.?
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what pre-loaded programs and software are installed on ASUS EEE PC 7″ Surf notebook? It says that it comes with Linux OS and it’s not compatible with Microsoft Word but then it says that you can upgrade to Microsoft XP. If I upgrade to XP will Word work? In the reviews people have said it’s great for writing but no has told what program it uses for writing. Also what are the major features of it? Like does it have a CD-Rom and or a Floppy drive etc…???
The laptop series you are talking about come with nearly nothing. I believe there are some versions that have a flash memory reader but that is about it. No cd-rom, no floppy, Just a coupple USB ports. But it is a very small lightweight computer and has a battery life you have to see to believe.
If you want a thin light notebook with outstanding battery life and all the features look up using compac flash as a IDE drive and find a laptop you like and replace the hard drive with a CF card. Simply eliminating the hard drive and using solid state memory will increase battery life greatly.
As far as linux goes if you want to use the computer for general surfing and some writing give open office a shot it comes pre-loaded on it anyway and there are about a million and one plug-ins you can download for it (openoffice.org) and the new distro’s of linux are very easy to use and you will not have to worry nearly as much about viruses and malware and such in a linux environment. When it comes to security nothing beats linux.
