Is this a good notebook?

It is only fair, to answer your question.
The price is also important for comparing the package as well. By “package” I am referring to the specifications, (as you have given).
A Dell is ok. 1.8 Mhz is ok too; (although I would like to see something faster, it will do for most applications).
1024 MB Ram is a minimum these days.
120 GB HD is typical also.
The B-modem is ok for older computers, but the next and current step is G.
The VGA is a very small amount at 256 MB and definately NOT enough for anything beyond just typing letters and e-mail. You could get by with it but not for gaming or high use graphics!!
My suggestion is to look elsewhere for a better configuration. It sounds like an older computer and you could do better unless they are practically giving it to you for very cheap or free.
For a laptop, you could find one a bit better and faster for around $700.00 to 1,200.00 for a very nice beginning system. The $1,200.00 being a pretty nice system.
