How do I wipe my laptop if I can’t even see the screen at all? LCD Screen is completely broken,?
I have a serious problem. I need to wipe my hard drive on my HP dv6000 or whatever it is. It’s a laptop. The screen is completely black, it’s broken. You can’t see anything on it. I want to sell the computer on ebay, but I wanna make sure everything is wiped. I don’t know how to wipe it if I can’t even see the screen. Someone help?
Remove the hard drive, if you can plug it into another computer and wipe it from there (don’t just delete the files, us a third party file shredder). If you don’t care if it works again take a large magnet and run it over the hard drive, if you have an extremely strong magnet it will scramble ALL of the data on your hard drive, make sure you sell the computer as “as is”
Either way you will first need to remove the hard drive, on most laptops you will see a tray that comes out on the side with two screws holding it in from the bottom, you must first remove these screws and then the hard drive will slide out, if not do some research, google your laptop model (i.e. Dell Inspiron 1721) and remove hard drive.
If you can’t do either you could always just sell it without the drive, a hard drive is way cheaper than a new screen. Feel free to message me if you need more help.
