Flash drives don’t work on my HP notebook (vista)?
So a few months ago flash drives stopped working on my laptop. I’ve tried all the usb inputs– none of them work. I’ve tried several different flash drives and none of them work. It says I need to install a driver (doesn’t say this on other computers) and the drivers for various flash drives are nearly impossible to find for vista. The computer sometimes doesn’t even recognize them. Again, this problem arose fairly recently; they did used to work. I’m running windows vista. What can I do?
Couple of possibilities here (note this is what I would do on Windows XP. You’ll need to find the equivalent in Windows Vista):
a.)
Right click on “My Computer”
Select Hardware tab
Click on the “Device Manager”
Locate USB Devices and right click and then select
“Scan for hardware changes”
b.)
It sounds like your chipset drivers have become corrupted.
You’ll need to go to HP’s website and download the latest chipset driver.
Uninstall the old one, then install the new one.
