What do I need to know about mac?
Well, recently my laptop computer fell down a flight of stairs (don’t ask). It was bitter sweet because I lost a laptop, but now I have the chance to buy a a mac finally.
Basically what I wanna know is when I buy a mac, what do I have to know before I go to the store.I plan on buying the latest version (not the air) and I don’t wanna go there and end up being tricked by the sellers into buying different, unnecessary stuff. Like my friend was talking about some operating system called the leopard, or cheetah, or tiger or something. Like are the operating systems all cat names lol?
Thanks in advance. And before you answer, please know I don’t want a comparison between Mac laptops and regular laptops. I’ve had regular laptops all my life and simply want to try something different. I’m getting a mac no matter what

A Mac will do pretty much everything you need out of the box. The Apple Store employees won’t hard-sell you, but they will offer you the AppleCare warranty. Having owned Macs since 1999, I’d suggest getting it. Your first repair will likely make it pay for itself. There are other services they might offer (like “one-on-one” training), but you don’t really need them.
If you’re getting a laptop, get a Kensington lock, a keyboard skin and a carrying case of some kind (although you don’t have to buy them at the Apple Store). If you want to kick up your RAM, buy it from crucial.com. It’s a cinch to install it yourself.

P.S. The Mac operating system, Mac OSX, has traditionally gone by cat names. The current iteration, Mac OS 10.5, is known as “Leopard”. All Macs currently ship with it. You don’t need to buy it; restore DVDs are in the box!
The next iteration, “Snow Leopard”, will come out later this year.
