What To Do If You Cant Find The New Duplicates Album In IOS 16
Apple's latest iPhone software update has so many new features that you might miss out on some if you don't know where to look. For example, in iOS 16, Apple added a new Duplicates folder to the Photos app.
Now your iPhone will automatically detect all duplicate photos and videos, put them in one folder and give you options to merge or delete them. Unfortunately, even after updating to iOS 16, not everyone finds the Duplicate folder. If you are one of the confused iPhone owners, Apple has a solution for you.
Apple earlier this week posted a support document on its website specifically for owners who were unable to locate the Duplicate album. As Apple notes, the Duplicates album will only appear after your iPhone has indexed your photo library and found the duplicates.
Before you rush to the Apple Store for a repair, read this from Apple:
The detection process requires iPhone to be locked and connected to a power source. Depending on the tasks running in the background and the size of your photo library, the process can be quick or take several days.
Another important detail that Apple doesn't include is that duplicate albums won't appear unless you have multiple duplicate photos and videos on your iPhone. I just merged two identical photos in my personal photo library. The album disappears when I return to the album menu. Your library must not already contain any duplicates.
Given the number of bugs in iOS 16, it's understandable that some users find that this functionality has been discontinued. Luckily it works as expected. You may just need to index your phone's large photo library before you can use it.
