CoverScreen OS is software that attempts to turn the tiny 3.26-inch screen of the Oppo Find N2 Flip into a "fully functional mini phone." Basically, this means you can use the app drawer and open "almost any app" on the foldable screen, which greatly expands the number of things you can do on the wireless foldable phone. open. The software can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.

CoverScreen OS has been available for the Samsung Z Flip 3 and 4 for a while. In fact, my colleague Allison tested it on the Z Flip 4 last August. While the app's usefulness is limited on the Samsung's small 1.9-inch display, the Find N2 Flip's 3.26-inch, 720 x 382 display seems to have more potential in portrait mode.

When I reviewed the Find N2 Flip last month, I was disappointed with the limited functionality of its foldable display, despite it being larger than the foldable display of Samsung's foldable phones. In practice, I felt the Oppo wasn't making the most of that larger screen. For example, Find N2 Flip only shows email subject lines and not the body when you receive a notification, or offers the weather forecast for a few hours instead of the whole day.

CoverScreen OS support for the Find N2 Flip is described as "experimental" and "preliminary" at the moment, but it has big ambitions. Not only can you launch entire apps, but you can also add designed widgets to the default home screen. Full Qwerty keyboard, voice recorder or legacy T9 keyboard are supported. In the video demo, the developer demonstrates how to open YouTube, then open a web browser from the app drawer, then use the on-screen keyboard to enter a text field.

According to the software developer, CoverScreen OS still allows you to use the standard functionality of the Oppo Find N2 Flip's cover screen, e.g. B. System Shortcuts and Widgets. Just keep in mind that while the app is supposed to be stable on Samsung foldable phones, it's a pre-release version and according to its developers, "still requires ongoing development efforts to deliver full functionality."

If you want to try CoverScreen OS, you can download it now from the Google Play Store.
