Oppo has joined Xiaomi and Vivo in including a massive 1-inch camera sensor in its latest Find X6 Pro smartphone, which went on sale in China today alongside the regular Find X6. It has also not skimped on the technical features of the telephoto lens and the ultra-wide-angle camera.

In China, the Find X6 Pro starts at 5,999 yuan (about $872) for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and 6,999 yuan (about $1,017) for 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Meanwhile, the non-professional Find X6 starts at 4,499 yuan (about $654) for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. A company representative declined to confirm whether more X6 phones will be available internationally in the future.

The Find X6 Pro's main camera is the star of the show and uses a 50MP 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor. But Oppo wants you to know that it hasn't forgotten about the extra telephoto and ultra-wide-angle cameras. Oppo claims the 50MP 1/1.56-inch Sony IMX890 sensors used in its ultra-wide and periscope cameras are "larger than any wide-angle camera to date" and "the largest smartphone telephoto sensor on the market." , So that : . This sensor is the same size that Samsung used for the main camera of the latest Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus phones as a reference.

Sensor size obviously isn't everything when it comes to image quality, especially when most smartphones use software for their photos (in fact, my colleague Alison has a great article here exploring the strengths and weaknesses of large camera sensors). So Oppo also has some software features, such as a collaboration with Hasselblad that results in the Find X6 Pro's portrait mode, which mimics the "colors and depth of field" of the Swedish camera maker's XCD30 and XCD80 lenses.

Rounding out the camera features, the Find X6 Pro's wide-angle camera has a 110-degree field of view, f/2.2 aperture, and can take macro shots from a minimum focus distance of 4cm. Meanwhile, the Periscope telephoto camera offers 3x optical zoom and 6x hybrid zoom.

Unlike the cameras in the large circular camera bump on the back of the phone, the Find X6 Pro offers a number of basic features. It is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and a 5000mAh battery that can charge at 100W via cable and 50W wirelessly.

It also sports a 6.82-inch 120Hz OLED display with a maximum brightness of 2,500 nits (Oppo says it's the "brightest smartphone display ever") and a camera, as well as a 32-megapixel selfie stick. It has an IP68 dust and water resistance rating and has 12 or 16 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of internal storage.

Today's launch is only for the Chinese market and Oppo is not currently announcing an international launch for the Find X6 Pro or Find X6. This is a departure from the Oppo Find X5 Pro, which is sold in both Europe and Asia.
