With the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Honor Magic Vs in Malaysia's foldable smartphone scene, the techno brand known for their affordable prices has now joined the fray with the Techno Phantom. The Tecno Phantom V Fold is available for pre-order now through May 9, 2023 at Shopee and Lazada and City Republic official Tecno stores. The regular retail price is RM5,399 , RM5 from the Honor Magic Vs. 999 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is less at RM6,799.

At first glance, the Tecno Phantom V Fold looks premium with a solid 6.42-inch FHD+ display and a 7.85-inch 2296 x 2000p AMOLED display. Both feature an LTPO backplane that provides an adaptive refresh rate of 10-120Hz with touch sample rates of 360Hz and 240Hz on the secondary and primary displays. The dual screens offer a maximum brightness of 1100 nits with full DCI-P3 color space coverage and Corning Gorilla Glass Victos on the outer screen and Shot UTG on the main screen.

Under the hood you'll find the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ system-on-a-chip, which isn't MediaTek's latest processor, but is still last year's flagship. It has 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFC 3.1 storage and runs Android 13 with Tecno's own HiOS13 Fold skin, which has tons of widgets and features designed for folding. Tecno did not say how many years of software support it will provide, although the Android Authority has previously guaranteed at least two major operating system updates.

On the camera front, the large round camera at the back has a 50MP f/1.85 primary camera with a 13MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle camera and a 50MP telephoto lens with f/1.98 aperture and 2x. Optical amplification. 20x high digital zoom. You also get a 32 MP selfie camera on the outer screen and a 16 MP selfie camera on the main screen.

Other highlights include a 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers and support for WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and 5G. Tecno claims the hinge can withstand over 200,000 bends and is made of aerospace-grade materials, but this isn't the type of hinge seen on the Samsung version.

The Phantom V Fold comes in black or white, but at 299g and 14.53mm thick, it won't be the lightest device.
