Tecno Camon 20 Premier is something new in the mid-range. The smartphone faces stiff competition, but it stands out with its sleek design and 108MP ultra-wide-angle camera.
The first thing you notice when looking at the Camon 20 Premier is its camera module which sets it apart from the competition. It is dense but designed in such a way as to match the geometric pattern behind it. The smartphone feels great in the hand thanks to the brushed finish. It is one of the few smartphones that does not leave fingerprints, smudges or smudges. Similar color themes in Serenity Blue and Dark Welkin Black complete the look.
Camon 20 Premier is comfortable to hold in your hand. I had no problem finding the power button and volume buttons. The power button is shorter than expected and needs some adjusting, but it's better than long. With a weight of 202.5 grams, the phone is not light, but it does not feel heavy in the hand. You get a minimum of IP53 protection against dust and water, so be careful when using it in the rain.
On the front, it has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. The screen-to-body ratio is 89.3%, which is pretty good for the price. There's no support for HDR or Dolby Vision, but Widescreen does offer L1 DRM certification for Netflix streaming up to Full HD. It is satisfactory to use media. However, I wanted it to be brighter when used in direct sunlight. To confirm, 10 out of 10 shooters have an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Tecno Camon 20 Premier is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 8050 chipset coupled with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. It provides a smooth experience in daily use without any lag or stuttering in the user interface. It goes well with most tasks and doesn't get hot even when you press it down. The Tecno phone has a 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging that charges from 5% to 50% in 30 minutes. I didn't notice any unusual battery drain and it lasted all day on four days of use.
The HiOS 13 smartphone runs on the basis of Android 13. It comes with mobile malware like Aha Games. But Realme 11 Pro Plus falls short of what Realme can offer in terms of user interface. Tecno's HiOS 13 is cleaner compared to Realme's UI. Ads are kept to a minimum and you can get rid of spam notifications with just a few clicks. The program offers an always-on screen with technical settings. Other features include Game Plus, Parental Controls, Smart Panel, and more. It is a multifunctional leather.
Camon 20 Premier features a triple rear camera setup that includes a 50MP primary camera, a 108MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 2MP depth sensor. Tecno uses a built-in image stabilization feature that compensates for shake up to 5000 times per second which is very useful for people with shaky hands like myself.
The 50MP sensor takes detailed photos with (mostly) good dynamic range in daylight. When you select a pixel, you'll notice that the dark area doesn't get enough detail. If you need more detail, go for the 50MP mode, but you'll have to adjust for slower recording speeds. Night mode sharpens the image and makes it attractive. At the same time, night shots also look good. There's no telephoto lens here, and you get 2x digital zoom for capturing distant subjects.
I loved the photos because of the beautiful skin tones and textures. Does not smooth the skin. Plus, you get better subject and background separation. The only thing that baffles me a bit is the lack of a 2x or 3x zoom in portrait mode.
The 108MP ultra wide angle camera takes great pictures. The default is 12MP, which is sufficient in most situations. You can switch to 108MP mode for better detail, but these shots are quite large. I liked the contrast and dynamic range, but the images looked a bit warmer. You can also take good macro shots with this camera.
Up front, you get a 32MP selfie camera, though it's pretty slim with a flash built into the top edge. The pictures have a lot of detail and good skin tone and color.
With a starting price of Rs 29,999, the Camon 20 Premier has a lot to offer. Realme 11 Pro Plus is another beautiful phone in this segment, but with a quality user interface. If you want to play more games, check out Poco F5 which offers better performance. Tecno Camon 20 Premier offers a unique design, equal performance, good camera and long battery life, which makes it a powerful phone.
